Volleyball Concludes Season At Home

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy closed out the 2017 season on Wednesday night, as the Griffins fell to Immaculata, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-10), here at The Griffin Complex.

GMercyU's Rainah Dunham produced nine kills, six digs, and two blocks (one solo) on the evening. Cait Saalfrank notched her sixth match of the season with 20 or more digs, ending with a game-high 21.

The Mighty Macs' Arden Vizzard was one kill shy of a double-double (nine kills/16 digs). Teammates Nicole Taylor added seven kills while Olivia Zdradzinski doled out 21 assists to go along with eight digs.

After falling in the first set (25-17), Gwynedd opened the second sizzling, taking a 6-1 lead off the strength of back-to-back kills from Abreeanna Bisenius and Kaylee Craig. But Immaculata climbed back in it, getting to a 10-10. From there, IU (9-11, 7-4 CSAC) went on a 10-2 spurt as part of a 19-6 run to stay ahead for good. The final set got off to a 7-0 Immaculata lead, whereas Gwynedd had to play catch up the rest of the way.

For Saalfrank, she enters the program record books with the second-most digs in a season (462) and tops in digs per set (5.13 dpg). Saalfrank also tied a single-game mark with 32 digs in a five-set match at Cairn earlier this season. Setter Kerry McGlinn now sits in fourth place all-time in assists (1119) after moving past Erin Ross (1115) tonight.

The Griffins conclude the season with a final record of 9-19 and 3-8 in CSAC play under first-year head coach Kristen Johnson.
