GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer team secured a CSAC home playoff game with their 2-1 victory over Rosemont College on Saturday morning.
The Griffins (9-5-1, 7-2-1 CSAC) scored a pair of first half goals by
Morgan McAndrews and
Madeline Swartley to win their regular season home finale.
Grace Macnamara assisted both of the goals midway through the first half each coming off of corner kicks only minutes apart. Prior to the two goals, Gwynedd had a penalty kick awarded but
Meghan Petroski's attempt found the post.
On their first goal, Macnamara served a corner kick where Swartley headed it to McAndrews where her one touch slipped under Rosemont goalie Melissa Lynch.
Holding a 2-0 lead late into the second half, Gwynedd saw the Ravens (5-11, 3-7 CSAC) cut the lead to one with a Madeline Polino goal with 15:34 left in regulation. Goalie
Kailey Hopkins and the Griffin defense did not allow a shot the rest of the way to pick up the win.
For the game the Griffins, outshot Rosemont 15-6 and held a 6-3 corner advantage.
The team was joined by honorary captain Addie Navarro, through conjunction with The Sunshine Foundation, in the pregame coin toss.
