GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Field Hockey teamed secured their 11th straight playoff appearance under head coach
Laura-Ann Lane with a convincing 6-0 victory over Neumann on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win the Griffins also earned their third-straight shutout victory and remained unbeaten at home this season.
Kaitlyn Lutz scored a pair of first half goals to spark the GMercyU offense.
Brianna O'Connell added a pair of goals in the second half while
Melissa Russo and
Jamie McCarney added scores in the second stanza as well.
Lutz scored her first in the 16th minute when she collected a loose ball from
Madison Reiss. Her second came off of a corner play setup by
Maggie Walsh in the 24th minute for a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Griffins opened up the scoring in the second half first in the 43rd minute when O'Connell hammered home a pass setup by Russo from the end line. O'Connell would strike again when she capitalized on a penalty stroke in the 45th minute. Russo would add her first in the 50th minute when she knocked home a pass from Lutz on the far post.
McCarney would score the final goal in the 59th minute when she finished a pass from
Tori Sherwood in front of the cage.
For the game the Griffins out-shot Neumann, 30-0, and held a 25-1 corner advantage.

Abi Kennedy posted her second straight shutout.
The Griffins return back to action on Saturday when they host Marywood at 5 p.m. With a win, they can lock up the top playoff seed and home-field advantage.
