ALLENTOWN, PA. --
Melissa Russo surpassed the 200-point mark for her career in the Griffins' 10-0 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory over Cedar Crest Saturday morning.
The senior scored four goals and added an assist to end the day with 206 career points. She becomes the second player in the history of the Colonial States Athletic Conference/Pennsylvania Athletic Conference to accomplish the feat.
Kaitlyn Lutz and
Michaela Swenk each added a pair of goals while
Brianna O'Connell and
Tori Sherwood added helpers as well.
Freshman goalie
Abi Kennedy recorded two saves for her first career shutout and victory as the team won their third-straight game.
The Griffins (11-3, 4-0 CSAC) scored three goals in the first five minutes and thirty five seconds of the game. Lutz put GMercyU on the scoreboard after connecting on a penalty corner from an assist by
Maggie Walsh. Swenk and Russo would score almost a minute apart for the early 3-0 lead. O'Connell scored her first and only of the game in the 25th minute.
Russo earned her 200th career point at 29:34 on her second goal of the game for a 5-0 halftime lead. For her career, she now sits at 206 points, just 10 behind Alvernia's Becky Macchione (2003-06) with 216.
In the second half, Russo completed the hat trick from an assist by
Abigail Gabriel.
Tori Sherwood added her first collegiate goal in the 55th minute with a helper from
Jamie McCarney. Swenk added her second in the 59th minute assisted by Russo. In the 64th minute, Russo would finish her scoring on the day with an unassisted tally. Lutz would cement scoring in the 69th minute off a corner assisted by Swenk.
The Griffins out-shot the Falcons (8-5, 1-3 CSAC), 26-2, and held an 18-4 corner advantage.
GMercyU returns back to action on Tuesday when they host Neumann at 4 p.m.
