SCRANTON, PA. -- Marywood defeated Gwynedd Mercy, 4-1, Wednesday evening in a CSAC contest.
Matt Bachmann netted the Griffin's lone goal, his second on the year, with an assist from
Cole Smith early in the second half.
The Pacers notched the game's first tally in the 25th minute for the 1-0 lead on a goal from Zac Lloyd. The score remained the same as the teams entered halftime where Marywood held a slight edge in shots, 10-8.
Capers Borders made it 2-0 at the 50:09 mark of the second before Bachmann answered just over two minutes later to keep the Griffins within striking distance. GMercyU rattled off 12 second-half shots but had trouble converting on their chances including a header attempt that sailed over the crossbar minutes after Bachmann's tally.
Gwynedd (1-11-1, 1-4 CSAC) had a bit of bad luck as an own goal with just over 10 minutes in regulation followed by another Pacer tally 1:17 seconds later would help cement the score.
Griffin goalie
Ryan Oyola made five stops while Michael Mejia recorded eight stops for Marywood (6-5, 3-2 CSAC).
On Saturday, the team welcomes Centenary for a conference clash starting at noon.
