Memorable Night For Russo, Griffins In CSAC Road Win At Marywood

Junior notches 100th career point; scores four goals in the second half

SCRANTON, PA. – Melissa Russo had quite the night on Wednesday, scoring a career-high four goals, all in the second half, including her 100tth career points to help lead the Griffins to a 5-2 win at Marywood in the Griffins' first CSAC game of the season.

Trailing 2-1 at the half, Russo and the Griffins came alive in the second. Her first of the night came in the 52ndn minute as she banged in her own rebound. Her next goal gave GMercyU (5-4, 1-0 CSAC) its first lead with 11:48 left in the contest.

Russo tacked on two more tallies in the final 4:50 of the game polish off one remarkable evening.

The Pacers (6-3, 1-1 CSAC) would net the game's first goal in the 11tth minute on a score by on a penalty corner by Tori Jo Kakusian. Brianna O'Connell would answer just over six minutes later with her seventh goal on the year, assisted by Maggie Walsh off a penalty corner.

Marywood's Lindsey Quinn would score with 12 minutes before the half to send the contest into the half, 2-1.

The four goals now give Russo a team-leading 10. Coming into the evening, she was at 97 career points, and with her second tally, would surpass the century mark. She is the fifth Griffin to surpass the 100-career point mark.

Samantha Soscia and Kerri Mountz each recorded five saves in net.

Gwynedd Mercy returns to action on Saturday when they play at Cabrini in a rematch of last season's conference championship game starting at noon.
