Field Hockey Picks Up Big Road Win At Cabrini

RADNOR, PA. – Gwynedd Mercy built and early lead to go on and defeat Cabrini on the road, 5-3, Saturday afternoon in a CSAC matchup.

On the back of first-half goals from Shannon Carroll, Kaitlyn Burguillos, and Brianna O'Connell, the Griffins (6-4, 2-0 CSAC) took a commanding 3-0 lead going into the half. After a Cabrini score to start the second, O'Connell would net her second on the day and with a goal from Kaitlyn Lutz, GMercyU would hold a 5-1 advantage with just under 12 minutes to play.

The Cavaliers (4-6, 1-1 CSAC) did not go quietly as Taylor Mack, who scored Cabrini's first tally struck again with 7:22 left and again on a penalty stroke just under two minutes later to cut into the Griffin lead.

Goalie Samantha Soscia was up to the task, as she would make three of her five saves in the second half alone. The defense saw 11 Cabrini shots in the period as well.

Carroll would net her first of the year at the 10:07 mark to open the scoring. Burguillos would score her first collegiate goal just over five minutes later for a 2-0 lead which forced a Cabrini timeout. O'Connell would add her first of the day with 5:51 left in the stanza.

Officially, Gwynedd had just two second half shots, but made both of them count. O'Connell potted her ninth goal in the 58tth minute while Lutz added to the lead with her second score of the season just 51 seconds later.

The Griffins resume action on Tuesday night when they welcome Stockton here at 7 p.m.
