ASTON, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Soccer Team opened up CSAC play with a big 2-0 shutout win at Neumann on Saturday.
Meghan Petroski and
Tori Goebig each tallied a goal and an assist while goalie
Kailey Hopkins made six saves for her second career shutout.
After a scoreless first half, the Griffins (2-2-2, 1-0 CSAC) got on the board in the 52nnd minute when Goebig set up Petroski for her first tally of the season. In the 84tth minute, Petroski returned the favor, assisting on Goebig's second goal this year and more importantly some insurance. Goebig would pick up a carom off Petroski's shot, and tap it into the open net.
Hopkins saw six shots from the Knights in each half, making four stops in the first and two in the second.
Anna Attari recorded three stops for Neumann (2-4, 0-1 CSAC).
The Griffins head to New York City to take on John Jay on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. start.
