Del Val Nets Two Late Goals To Bewilder Griffins

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was at the wrong end of a 2-1 decision to Delaware Valley Wednesday night.

The Griffins, who got on the board early in the first half, yielded two goals in the final 20 minutes of regulation and saw their eight-game unbeaten streak at home dating back to last season come to an end.

Tori Goebig notched her first tally of the season in the 13th minute as she was able to get a foot on a short cross from the right side from Meghan Petroski for a 1-0 lead.

Moving forward into the second, Petroski almost made it 2-0 as she got a great look on a header off a corner kick, but her attempt was just over the crossbar.

The Aggies (2-2-1) would find their way onto the scoreboard in the 70th minute when Taylor Boyer found space just inside the box and fired a shot off the outstretched fingertips of Gwynedd goalie Kailey Hopkins to tie the contest a 1-1.

Kylie Williams would score the eventual game-winner with 8:55 left in the game. The Griffins had trouble clearing the box and Williams would get through a pair of defenders and send a shot to the far post for a lead.

Delaware Valley outshot GMercyU, 11-8, for the game and 7-3 in the second half.

Hopkins and Del Val goalie Emily Schukraft each recorded three saves apiece. The last home loss came on September 26th in a 1-0 loss to Centenary.

Gwynedd Mercy (1-2-2) resumes action on Saturday when they open up CSAC play with a date at Neumann.
