CHESTER, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy won their third game in a row in a 5-1 win at Widener Wednesday night.
Melissa Russo scored three times tying a career high, all in the second half, to record her second career hat trick.
Shannon Carroll also added a personal best three assists as the Griffins (4-1) won on the road for the third-straight outing.
Brianna O'Connell netted an early score, her team-leading sixth, just 1:33 into the contest for the 1-0 lead.
Allie Bauder made it 2-0 with her third score this year, this time an unassisted tally in the 25th minute to help take the Griffins into the half with a two-goal lead.
Russo would not only score the next three, but do so in a span of just over seven minutes, early in the second to help open up a sizable advantage and give her five goals on the year.
Goalie
Samantha Soscia, who made six saves on the night, was vying for her first shutout on the season, but the Pride's Megan McLaughlin spoiled the blank sheet with her goal with only 25 seconds remaining. Widener keeper Mikalya Ninos would make four stops for the Pride (3-2).
Also defensively,
Noelle Schillinger registered a pair of defensive saves, which was a career high.
