GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat tonight to DeSales, as the Bulldogs scored two late second-half goals.
The Griffins (2-3) took a first-half lead in the 23rd minute on a
Mike Czajka goal scored from the six-yard line assisted by
Chris Black. The tally would be Czajka's second on the season. GMercyU, who outshot DeSales, 5-1, in the first, would hold that lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Bulldogs (2-4) responded with goals in the 68th and 83rd minutes respectively to take the 2-1 lead. Both DeSales goals were of the tough-luck variety, coming off of defensive deflections. The first by Max Cortina was struck from thirty-five yards out, as his shot deflected under the crossbar. Â DeSales would net the game-winning goal as Zach Reichard had a deflection come to his foot where he found the back of the net.
The Griffins held an advantage in shots for the game, 8-7, but the Bulldogs recorded seven corners to the Griffins' five.
Goalkeeper
Ryan Oyola made five stops for the Griffins while his counterpart Ryan O'Neill made two.
GMercyU returns back to action on Thursday, as they travel to Bryn Athyn College for a 4 p.m. start.
