GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- For the second game in a row, the Griffins fought through two overtimes, ending in a 1-1 tie, this time against Lycoming on Saturday.
Both teams endured the brutally hot conditions with a total of 26 shots throughout the game. The first half was completely even with each team taking four shots apiece. Gwynedd had two corner kicks in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net.
The first goal was scored by Lycoming's Amanda Wisolmerski at the 76:14 mark, on a tough luck play. A free kick from Wisolmerski just outside the box slipped right through Gwynedd goalie
Kailey Hopkins' fingers to give the Warriors a brief lead.
The Griffins quickly answered five minutes later with an energetic goal from freshman
Lexi Palm, her first collegiate tally. Palm was set up by
Ariety Fellenz on a short cross into the box. Palm would find space and fire a shot off of Lycoming' Joelle Winey' fingertips to knot things up at 1-1.
Winey did make three crucial stops in the second half to keep the score tied as the teams headed to extra time.
Hopkins turned in a stellar performance in both overtimes, racking up two saves in the first and three in the second. The Griffins were outshot 5 to 1 in the overtimes, but Hopkins was able to deny Lycoming.
Gwynedd will host Delaware Valley College this Wednesday, September 14th at 6 p.m.
