MADISON, N.J. --
Brianna O'Connell netted her second career hat trick as the Griffins scored three times in the second half to go on and defeat Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham, 4-1, Saturday afternoon.
Melissa Russo added a goal and an assist as Gwynedd Mercy improved their overall record to 3-1.
After the Devils (2-2) opened the scoring 6:48 into the game, scoring on a penalty corner, O'Connell would answer in the 24th minute with an assist from Russo. The score remained 1-1 heading into the second before Russo made it 2-1 with her tally just 50 seconds into the stanza. She would bang home her own rebound off a run for her second goal on the season.
Less than a minute later, it became 3-1 when
Allie Bauder assisted on O'Connell's second score. In the 46th minute, O'Connell capped the scoring, converting on a penalty stroke.
The Griffins had seven shots in each half and produced eight corners on the day. Goalie
Samantha Soscia made three stops for GMercyU. FDU keeper Samantha Rubin recorded five saves.
Gwynedd Mercy gets back at it on Wednesday when they head to Chester, Pa. to face Widener in a 7 p.m. evening start.
