Griffins Can't Withstand Cyclones

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Centenary went on an 8-1 run in the second half to pull away from Gwynedd Mercy in an 18-8 final in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Game Wednesday.

Carrie Kilgore netted three goals while Arianna Hensinger and Morgan McAndrews added two goals and an assist each for the Griffins.

Devin Sutko totaled 10 points on two goals and eight assists and teammate Carlie Schmitt recorded six goals and Abby Voelkner chipped in five as the Cyclones scored eight of the final nine goals over the last 23 minutes of the contest.

Back-to-back goals from Kilgore and Hensinger would tie things at 3-3 10 minutes into the game. But Centenary would put together a three-goal spurt and later a four-goal run to end the first half, to take a 10-4 lead at the break.

The Griffins (1-8, 1-3 CSAC) would put something together to open the second, scoring three straight in the first three minutes to get within 10-7 before Centenary (5-5, 4-1 CSAC) would go their game-changing run.

Goalie Bria Gillard made nine of her 13 saves in the second half. Renee Hack recorded 10 stops for Centenary. McAndrews added five groundballs, five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Hensinger also snagged five GB's, four draws, and a pair of caused turnovers.

Gwynedd Mercy returns to action Saturday as they continue CSAC play with a contest at Neumann with a start time of 11 a.m.
