GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The offense kept on rolling, totaling 20 hits and a season-high seven doubles, as Gwynedd Mercy raced past Delaware Valley, 18-8, Wednesday afternoon.
Shaughn Wright had a career day, posting a personal-best 4-for-4 effort with four RBI's. He would double twice and walk once, reaching base on all five plate appearances.
Dave Tatoian also drove in four runs for the second-straight game, going 3-for-6.
Jason Mulvey scored three times while adding a pair of doubles as the Griffins (17-15) erased a one-run deficit in the fifth with six runs. They would stretch the advantage with an eight-spot in the seventh.
After Aggies plated two runs on a two-run homerun in the first, Gwynedd answered with three in their first at-bat.
David Blount singled home Mulvey who made it all the way from first and Wright would have one of his RBI doubles on the day to score Blount. Later, with the sacks full,
Tommy Nardini reached on a catcher's interference to force in a run.
Tatoian would double in Blount in the second for a 4-2 lead but the Aggies used an RBI double and score again on a wild pitch to knot the contest up at 4-4 in the third.
An unearned run would score in the fifth to give Del Val (15-17) its first, and last, lead. GMercyU would take the lead for good in the sixth. Two bases loaded walks would put Gwynedd ahead and after a pitching change, Tatoian knocked in a pair and later Wright would slice one down the right field line for a two-bagger to plate two more runs and make it a 10-5 ballgame.
Del Val would get two on with one out in the seventh, but the Griffins turned in an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play. They would ride that momentum to the bottom half where they scored eight runs on eight hits and two errors to add to their lead.
Zach Dennis picked up the win in relief, as he would start the fourth and allow just two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work.
Blount scored a career-high four runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate along with two RBI's.
Gwynedd Mercy will host Immaculata on Friday in a CSAC matchup to kick off a weekend series with the Mighty Macs. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
