LANGHORNE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy put up season highs in runs and hits in defeating Cairn in a CSAC Doubleheader on Tuesday. The Griffins took game one, 20-1, and the second, 29-3.
MaryKate Ballerino was 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI's, and two runs in game one.
Kim Machalette also knocked in four runs while
Becki Christoffers went 3-for-3 with four runs, two RBI's, two walks, and a stolen base. The Griffins scored seven runs in the first and another seven in the second to get ahead early.
Alyssa Morales fanned a season-high eight, while allowing one run on one hit. The game was halted after the fifth.
In game two, Christoffers drove in seven runs including a three-run homerun in the third. But the main offensive output came from
Jessica Behr. The sophomore was 4-for-6 with four runs, two doubles and a career-high eight RBI's. After a two-run double in the first, she would connect on a grand slam later in the frame as she totaled six RBI's.
Machalette and
Tara Matteo were both 4-for-6 with three runs. Machalette knocked in a pair of runs while Matteo tied a career high with four RBI's.
Gwynedd would plate 10 runs in the first and did not look back en route to the DH sweep. In total, GMercyU pounded out 27 hits and 41 total on the day.
The Griffins (21-7, 12-2 CSAC) head to Summit on Friday to continue conference play. On Saturday, they'll host Neumann.
