DALLAS, PA. --Misericordia used an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to edge Gwynedd Mercy, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon.
The Griffins would tie it in the top half of the ninth on a one-out single from
Tommy Nardini to score
Justin Curtin.
In the bottom half, a hit by pitch, single, and intentional walk would load the bases with one out. The Cougars' Kenny Jarema would single up the middle for the walk-off win.
Misericordia scored a run in both the first and second on RBI groundouts. The Griffins would get one back in the sixth on a
Dave Tatoian RBI single. However, the Cougars responded in the bottom half, scoring an unearned run.
After a lead-off walk from Curtin and a single from
Chris Hens to start the seventh, Nardini would ground out to move the runners up. Pinch hitter
Austin Heimbach stepped in and would plate Curtin on his grounder to second to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Curtin led off the ninth with an infield single, and move up on a groundout. Nardini would deliver with his single to center to plate Curtin and knot things up at 3-3.
Reliever
Sachael Sciarretta entered in the fifth and went into the ninth, allowing just the one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Hens had two of the Griffins' six hits while Curtin scored twice and walked.
Gwynedd Mercy (13-14) opens a conference series on Friday with Cairn in a single game in Gwynedd Valley. On Saturday, the teams meet for a DH in Langhorne.
