GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Albright scored early runs to put Gwynedd Mercy in a deficit they were not able to climb out of as the Griffins fell, 13-6, on Sunday afternoon.
Justin Curtin went 3-for-5 with two runs scored while
David Blount and
Austin Heimbach each added two-run singles as Gwynedd tried to rally late.
After the Lions struck for a run in the first, they would plate four in the second and five in the third. Albright had six hits through three innings, but took advantage of seven walks. Gwynedd starter
Frank Chubb was touched for nine earned runs before leaving in the third.
Andrew Hill entered in relief and allowed just one run, in the seventh, in 4 innings of work on three strikeouts and just one walk.
Gwynedd would put something together in the seventh and chase out Albright starter Travis Connor. With one out, back-to-back singles from
Tommy Nardini and Curtin put two on. After Daron Pijanowski entered on the mound,
Christian Carmolingo would single home Nardini to get GMercyU on the board. Blount would single home two runs with his liner up the middle. After another pitching change and with the bases loaded, Heimbach sliced one into center to score Blount and Carmolingo to make it 11-5.
Albright would get two runs back in the eighth on one hit, one error and a passed ball.
Curtin led off the bottom half with a single and after two hard hit balls that were caught for outs, Blount and David Tatoian reached via hit by pitch to load the sacks once again.
Nick Joyce would work a walk to force in a run. After another Albright pitching change,
Nick Mulvey would get a good piece but his hard shot was right at the shortstop for the third out.
Jeff Yordy was 3-for-5 with five RBI's, three doubles and three runs scored for Albright (5-22). Connor pitched into the seventh, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and three K's.
Nardini and Tatoian each had two hits while Carmolingo walked twice.
The Griffins (13-13) will look to get back on track when they head to Misericordia on Tuesday.
