Softball Stays Hot, Takes Two At Rosemont

ROSEMONT, PA. -- Kim Machalette gave up just one run in 13 innings of work in winning both games of a CSAC Doubleheader at Rosemont on Saturday. In game one, she fanned five with just one walk and one run on two hits in a 9-1 win. Game two would see her tie a season-high with seven K's while scattering three hits and not issuing a walk in the 7-0 victory.

The Griffins would plate six runs in the second inning of game one to erase a 1-0 deficit thanks to four hits and two errors. Nikki Canfield's RBI single and a sac fly from Tara Matteo in the third upped the lead to 8-1.

After Canfield would triple to lead off the sixth, she would score on Matteo's groundout at short.

Canfield would go 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI's and a stolen base. Jessica Behr also added three hits and scored twice.

In game two, Gwynedd (19-7, 10-2 CSAC) scored twice in the first, courtesy of an RBI double from Behr and RBI single by Matteo.

Machalette would work out of a bases loaded jam with one out in the bottom half. After runners reached on two fielding errors and a hit, she fought her way out with a strikeout and groundout.

Becki Christoffers RBI single in the fourth to score Amanda Wortham was part of a three-run frame. A two-run error allowed Christoffers and Michele Arechavala to score making it 5-0 Griffins.

Christoffers struck again in the fifth with a two-out RBI single while Matteo did the same in the sixth.

It was more than enough for Machalette, who got 1-2-3 outs over the final three innings to help lock up the sweep.

Christoffers and Matteo each had three hits with a pair of RBI's.

The Griffins play at Cairn on Tuesday.
