JENKINTOWN, PA. -- A four-run eighth from Penn State-Abington broke a 5-5 tie as the Griffins fell to the Lions in a non-conference matchup Friday afternoon.

Beau Fleming was 2-for-5 with a pair of extra-base hits for the Griffins (13-12). His two-run double in the first was part of a four-run frame for the early lead. Jason Mulvey added an RBI two-bagger in the second to up the lead to 5-0.

Abington (12-17) would get that run back in the bottom half on a sac fly before scoring four in the fourth on four hits and an error. Pat Fitzgerald had a two-run single in the inning and would later score on a double.

Reliever Sachael Sciarretta came in the fifth for starter Zach Dennis and would get out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth with a groundout to end the frame.

In the top of the sixth, the Griffins would load the bases with no outs but could not cash in and take a lead. PSU starter Don Halbruner was replaced by Greg Mugnier who would stifle Gwynedd's chances with two strikeouts and a grounder to second.

GMercyU would get runners on first and second in the eighth, but Mugnier got a called third strike. In the bottom half of the inning, Abington used three hits and a passed ball to score four times and take the lead for good.

Mulvey would score a run and added two stolen bases, upping his team-leading tally to 19.

Fleming, who entered in the seventh, would take the loss. Both Halbruner and Mugnier combined for 14 strikeouts.
