GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team took a pair of games from Neumann, 11-8 and 8-1 on Thursday afternoon to improve to 13-11 and 6-3 CSAC play. The Griffins scored the 19 runs on 19 hits, including four the home runs from Dave Tatoian, Chris Hens, Josh Lopez and Beau Fleming.

In game one, the Griffins jumped out to an early 3-1 lead on a three-run blast by Tatoian to score Christian Carmolingo and David Blount. In the second, the Griffins scored a pair of runs on a Carmolingo RBI single and successful double steal to plate Jason Mulvey.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Hens scored Beau Fleming and Tommy Nardini to put GMercyU in command, 8-3.

Fleming would add a pair of RBI's scoring Tatoian on a single in the fourth and Blount with a double in the sixth. Nardini would also score Justin Forktus in the sixth to put GM up 11-6.

The Knights would not go quiet in game one, scoring a run in the first, second and third innings. They would plate three in the fourth and a pair in the fifth and seventh to hang around including loading the bases in their final at-bat.

Mike Di Ianni picked up the win allowing just one hit and two earned runs.  Andrew Hill came in relief in the fifth and worked the Griffins out of a jam. Frank Chubb worked the seventh and recorded two strikeouts.

For the game Carmolingo, Tatoian, Fleming and Justin Curtin all recorded a pair of hits.

Game two saw Gino Tripodi go the distance going all seven innings for the Griffins. Tripodi allowed just one earned run while striking out four to pick up his third win on the season.

Tatoian scored Mulvey in the first to put Gwynedd up 1-0. Neumann responded in the fourth, capitalizing on a lead-off triple by Eric Bergman to tie the game 1-1. However in the home half of the frame, Hens drew a lead-off walk to set up Lopez's two-run shot to left to put the Griffins on top for good. GMercyU tacked on some more in the fifth when Fleming connected on his three-run shot to score both Blount and Tatoian for the 6-1 advantage. The Griffins added two more in the sixth when Blount knocked in Mulvey and Carmolingo scored on a wild pitch.

Mulvey finished game two 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Griffins return back to action tomorrow when they travel to Penn State-Abington at Alverthorpe Park in Jenkintown. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
