Women's Lax Defeated At Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy hung tough but a three-goal spurt midway in the second half helped Delaware Valley post a 14-8 decision Thursday afternoon.

Danae Perrymond, Kerri Flanagan, and Morgan McAndrews each netted two goals but it was the Aggies turning a close two-goal contest into a 10-5 lead with 12 minutes in regulation.

Taylor Teliszewski scored four times, while teammate Taylor Spleen added three and Jacqueline Ricks and Graeleigh Lackey each had two for Del Val.

The teams traded unassisted goals over the first 20 minutes of the first half. Flanagan would net her first on the day with 9:12 left in the stanza to make it 3-3. Spleen and Ricks scored back-to-back to give the Aggies a two-goal cushion. After a score from Perrymond with 3:38 before the half, Ricks got it to 6-4 with just 1:21 in the half.

Despite being outshot, 22-14, in the first 30 minutes, Gwynedd keeper Bria Gillard kept the Griffins in the game, making 10 saves.

Goals from Del Val's Teliszewski and Gwynedd's Brianna Greer in the first 2:07 of the second would be the only goals until the 15:19 mark, as the Aggies potted three-straight in just under three minutes to take a 10-5 edge.

Gwynedd (1-7) would get no closer than four goals the rest of the way.

Gillard would finish the day with 13 saves. Amanda Dietrich made nine stops for the Aggies (5-3).

McAndrews would lead GMercyU with six groundballs, five draws, and four caused turnovers. Greer also forced four turnovers and picked up five groundballs.

The Griffins resume action on Wednesday when they welcome Centenary in a CSAC contest starting at 4 p.m.
