SALIBURY, MD. -- Gwynedd Mercy lost a 34-10 decision at #11-ranked Salisbury Thursday afternoon.
David Blount went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI's and a stolen base. He would record his 100th career hit with a lead-off single in the fourth.
Salisbury's Pete Grasso was a thorn in the Griffins' side on the day as the shortstop/pitcher hit three home runs, going 4-for-5 with nine RBI's and five runs scored. Teammate Jake Dmiterchik drove in six and scored six times on a 3-for-4 day.
Gwynedd (9-7) plated four runs in the second on RBI singles from Blount,
Jason Mulvey, and
Justin Curtin. Blount would later score on a sac fly from
Dave Tatoian. After the SeaGulls took a 5-4 lead after the third, GM would get it right back in the fourth with two in the frame and tack on three in the fifth for a 9-5 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Salisbury would turn the tables for good, scoring 12 runs on 10 hits and two Gwynedd errors. They would score 10 more in the seventh, and seven in the eighth.
Another bright spot for the Griffins came in the top of the ninth as senior pitcher
Andrew Hill got his first career at-bat, and made the most of it, hitting a solo homer to center.
Shaughn Wright also added his first career home run, a lead-off shot in the fifth, to go 2-for-3. Mulvey would finish 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI's and
Justin Curtin stole three bases. A total of seven different Griffins would drive in a run on the day.
Gino Tripodi suffered the loss, pitching into the fifth.
The Griffins stay in the state of Maryland when they head to Johns Hopkins tomorrow in a 3 p.m. start.
