BALTIMORE, MD. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team fell to Johns Hopkins on Friday, 6-3, as the Griffins dropped their third game in a row in as many days.
The Blue Jays would score three runs in the seventh to open up a one-run game at that point. GMercyU would get a run across in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout and later get runners on with the tying run at the plate in their final at bat.
John Hopkins led 1-0, after the bottom of the first inning as they plated a lead-off double with an RBI base-hit to start the frame.
The score would remain 1-0 until the top of the fifth when the Griffins took a 2-1 lead. A two-out
Christian Carmolingo double would score
David Blount to tie the game 1-1.
Carmolingo would later score from second on an error for the Griffin lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hopkins would cross two runs to retake the lead at 3-2. A lead-off home run from Mitch Weaver would tie the contest and a defensive error would give the Blue Jays the 3-2 edge.
Hopkins would add on three more runs on four hits in the seventh for a 6-2 advantage.
Starter
Mike Di Ianni, who threw five and two thirds innings, striking out three, suffered the loss. Blount and
Beau Fleming both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Carmolingo would also walk twice.
The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday when they host rival Alvernia University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
