GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team got a pair of complete game starts from starting pitchers
Mike Di Ianni and
Frank Chubb in a doubleheader sweep over Marywood University Saturday afternoon to take the weekend series. Di Ianni struck out six in the Griffins 7-4 win in game one improving to 4-1 on the year. Chubb struck out seven in the 7-2 nightcap for his first collegiate victory.
In game one, the Griffins found themselves in a 4-0 hole in the bottom of the third inning.Â
Chris Hens cut the lead in half with his two-run single in the bottom of the frame. GMercyU would tie the game 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth capitalizing on a Pacer error.
Gwynedd would take a 5-4 lead in the sixth on a
Dave Tatoian RBI single. The Griffins would add two more runs in the inning on RBI's from
Beau Fleming and Hens.
Di Ianni would retire the final nine Pacers that came to the plate.
Game two saw the Griffins take a 1-0 lead in the first but Marywood would respond with two runs in the second inning on a two-run double for the 2-1 lead. The Griffins bats would come alive in the fourth inning, plating four runs in the frame. A
Justin Curtin RBI single would score Hens to tie the game.Â

Christian Carmolingo double added an insurance run in the fifth. Fleming would plate Blount in the sixth to give GMercyU the 7-2 lead. Chubb kept the Pacers off the board for the final five innings.
The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday traveling to Swarthmore. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
