LANGHORNE, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Basketball team opened up Colonial States Athletic Conference play with an 88-50 winÂ
Wednesday evening at Cairn University for their first win on the season.
After jumping out to an early 25-12 lead in the opening quarter, GMercyU (1-3, 1-0 CSAC) would take a 47-22 lead into the halftime break on the backs of eight first-half three-pointers. GMercyU would stretch their largest lead 84-40 early in the fourth and come away with the 88-50 victory.
Also highlighting the Griffins were 38 points off the bench and the team would turn 22 Highlander turnovers into 24 points.
For the game, the Griffins shot 35-of-77 (45.5%) from the field connecting on a season high 12 three pointers and six free throws.Â
E.J. Hartzler led Cairn (1-3, 0-1 CSAC) with 15 points on five three-pointers while teammate Kendra Stum chipped in 12 points and eight caroms.
The Griffins return back to action on Saturday when they host Notre Dame of Maryland University at 1 p.m. at the Griffin Complex in CSAC action.
