LANGHORNE, PA. --
Cedric Elleby netted his 1,000th career point to highlight Gwynedd Mercy's 83-56 Colonial States Athletic Conference win at Cairn Wednesday night.
The Griffins (4-0, 2-0 CSAC), who also remain unbeaten on the season, had five players in double figures as the team shot over 50% for the game.
Elleby finished with 12 points with
Courtney Cubbage tying a career-high with 16.
Rip Engel scored 13 with
Arron Goodman (11 points) and
Ty Jones (10 points) also hitting double digits.
Gwynedd dominated the paint, outrebounding the Highlanders, 38-23, and scoring of their 50 points down low. Goodman pulled down nine boards and Elleby snared six to lead the rebounding brigade.
Cairn would get out to a six-point lead on two occasions early in the first. Julian Collazo's field goal gave the Highlanders a 21-15 lead at the 10:59 mark. GMercyU responded with an 11-0 run in which they would go ahead for good. Jones' putback off a miss underneath gave GM a 26-21 edge. The lead would stretch to as much as 10 after a three from Goodman with 4:20 in the stanza. Gwynedd would lead 41-35 at the break.
Goodman's bucket in the early stages of the second upped the lead back to double figures to which Cairn could not come back from.
After shooting 17-of-34 in the first, the team would go 16-of-29 (55.2%) in the second. The squad connected on seven triples, three of which came from Engel.
Collazo led the Highlanders (1-3, 0-2 CSAC) with a game-high 17 points.
Gwynedd Mercy will host Neumann on Saturday in a rematch of last season's conference championship game in a 3 p.m. tip.
