GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. --
Melissa Russo set a program single-game scoring record with five goals to help lead Gwynedd Mercy past Keystone, 8-2, in a semifinal round matchup of the 2016 Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament.
The top-seeded Griffins (13-5) will host second-seeded Cabrini, who downed Marywood, 3-0, in the other semifinal, this Saturday at 1 p.m. to decide the CSAC Championship and earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. This will be the seventh year in a row the two teams will meet in the final.
Russo, who was named the 2016 CSAC Player of the Year earlier in the day, would score the game's first three goals, all in a span of nine minutes, to help GMercyU to a 3-0 lead 18:22 into the contest.
Kaitlyn Lutz would add an unassisted tally and another score from Russo helped stake the Griffins to a 5-0 lead at the half.
After Russo's fifth goal and a later a score from
Brianna O'Connell to open the second, the Giants' Shelby Crossdale put Keystone (6-11) on the board.
Kaitlyn Burguillos would pot a goal at the 68:32 mark for the team's eighth score on the night. Keystone's Ayana Crawford scored just under a minute later to cap the scoring on the night.
GMercyU fired off 25 shots on the night and had 23 penalty corners, which was a season high.
Russo now has 27 goals and 61 points on the season, which is one goal shy of the CSAC All-Time Single Season mark of 28 and is six points shy of the points record.
