Field Hockey Runs Away From Immaculata; Lane Notches Win #200

Head Coach Laura-Ann Lane Wins Career Game #200

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Griffins Field Hockey team defeated Immaculata University 6-0 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference Action and notch their third win in a row. The win also gave head coach Laura-Ann Lane her 200th career coaching victory.

Melissa Russo and Shannon Carroll led GMercyU (8-4, 3-0 CSAC) with a pair of goals while Maggie Walsh and Kaitlyn Burguillos each found the back of the cage.

Prior to the game, the team and coaching staff honored Cristen Pody, their lone senior, in a special ceremony with her and her family.

Lane is in her tenth season on the sidelines and has totaled a career mark of 123-72 as a Griffin. Her career record currently stands at 200-165 in 19 seasons with stops at former conference member Arcadia and ODAC member Roanoke.

Russo put Gwynedd up 1-0 just over ten minutes into the contest when she knocked home her own rebound. Carroll then followed scoring back to back goals; with the first coming twenty-nine seconds after Russo's and the second in the 13th minute assisted by Brianna O'Connell both in the middle of the crease. Russo closed out the first half with her second goal this time on a backhand shot assisted by Kaitlyn Lutz for the 4-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Walsh banged home her first of the day on a corner play assisted by O'Connell. Burguillos put a bookend on the scoring with her goal in the 68th minute on a rebound attempt.

For the game the Griffins out-shot Immaculata, 30-0, and held a 15-0 corner advantage.

Goalie Sarah Crane recorded the shutout in her first career start. Sarah Pasternak made nine stops before exiting early in the second. Emily Beavers came on and recorded seven saves.

GMercyU returns back to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Washington College (Md.) for a 7 p.m. start.
