SCRANTON, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer team suffered a deflating 2-1 defeat on the road at Marywood Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
The loss sends the Griffins to 4-4-2 and 2-2 in conference play. The Pacers go 5-4-1 and 5-0.
GMercyU would strike early in the contest, less than a minute into the action when
Anna Numerato scored from inside the eighteen. It was her first of the season and second career tally.
GMercyU would hold on the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break despite being outshot, 16-1. Goalie
Kailey Hopkins was kept busy, making eight stops in the first 45 minutes.
Marywood would respond in the second half with a pair of goals in the 52nd and 58th minutes to take a 2-1 lead. The Griffins would have a chance to tie the game in the 60th minute but were unable to connect on the equalizer.
Hopkins would tie a career-high with 13 saves.
Gwynedd returns back to action on Saturday when they travel to Cedar Crest for an 11 a.m. CSAC Matchup.
