BALTIMORE, MD. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell to Notre Dame of Maryland, 3-0, Saturday afternoon to close out the 2016 season. Set scores were 25-16, 25-22, and 25-23.
After falling behind in the first set to trail, 1-0, the Griffins would take an early 7-5 lead after three-straight points. The Gators came back, thanks to a 10-5 spurt to lead 15-10. Down 19-13, GMercyU put together six points in a row to knot things up, but could not get a lead and would now see NDM take a 2-0 lead.
The third set saw nine ties and four lead changes, unfortunately, the final lead change came when the Gators went ahead 20-19. Later, facing match point at 24-20, the Griffins tried to give a final push, and would get to within one (24-23), but a kill would send Notre Dame to the win.
Casey Griffith led the attack with a team-high 11 kills and add 10 digs for her 13th double-double on the year.
Abreeanna Bisenius added seven kills, which tied a season high.
Cassidy Keller totaled a match-high 16 kills for the Gators (16-8, 7-4 CSAC).
The match would be the final on-court appearance for the team's lone senior,
Laura Kirk. She has appeared in 109 games as a Griffin, totaling 381 kills, 1260 digs, 133 aces, 58 aces, and 19 blocks.
Gwynedd Mercy finishes the season at 9-18 and 4-7 in conference play.
