GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- What a Senior Night to remember for
Ariety Fellenz as she scored the game winning goal in double overtime to lift the Griffins to a 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten Cabrini University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference regular season finale on a rainy Thursday night.
The win also snapped the Cavalier's 41-game conference regular-season unbeaten streak. Their last loss came to Neumann back in September of 2013.
After neither team was able to find a score in ninety plus minutes, Fellenz found the ball on her foot from a pass by
Meghan Petroski. The senior then placed the ball to the far post past the Cavalier defense and goalie for her first, and the biggest so far, goal of the year.
Goalie
Kailey Hopkins recorded her eighth shutout on the year making seven saves on the evening. Gabby LeGendre made three stops for the Cavaliers (10-6-1, 9-1-1 CSAC), who have clinched the second seed in next week's playoffs.
With Immaculata's win over Cedar Crest, the Griffins now fall into the #5 seed and will play at the #4 Mighty Macs on Monday in a first-round matchup.
Prior to the contest, the team and coaching staff honored Fellenz and her family with a special pre-game ceremony.
