GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. –
Danny Saba scored twice and assisted on the other tally as Gwynedd Mercy picked up a big 3-0 CSAC victory over Marywood on Senior Night Thursday evening.
The Griffins (8-8, 4-2 CSAC) broke a six-game winless streak to the Pacers in the process as freshman goalie
Tyler Blair notched his first career shutout.
Saba notched his team-leading 10th and 11th goals on the season in a span of 4:02 in the first half. In the 22nd minute,
Chris Black sent a volley from the left side where it found
Eric Smith who headed it across the goal mouth right to Saba for the 1-0 lead.
It became 2-0 as Black hooked up with Saba again. This time, some nifty footwork from Black enabled him some space where he fed Saba with a pass into the box. Saba's shot couldn't be handled from Marywood keeper Patrick Brogan.
Now leading by two as the teams went into the second half, the Pacers came out firing, registering 15 of their 24 shots over the final 45 minutes. Blair was up to the task, and would finish with five saves on the evening.
Saba would pick up his second career assist in the 68tth minute as his attempted cross deflected off a Marywood defender which trickled to the foot of rookie
Matt Bachman who one-touched it in for his third tally on the year.
Brogan recorded one save before giving way to Tommy McGlennon late in the first half. He would finish with one stop for the Pacers (4-8-1, 2-3-1 CSAC).
After the game, the team and coaching staff honored its six seniors along with their families. Saba, Black,
