Petroski, Brown Spark Griffin Victory Over Gators

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A pair of second half goals lifted the Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University Wednesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.

Samantha Brown and Meghan Petroski each recorded a goal and assist for the Griffins (6-4-2, 4-2 CSAC) to win their second game in a row.

The Gators (2-9, 1-6 CSAC) struck first when Meghan Conner placed her shot underneath the crossbar from eighteen yards out on an assist from Lilly Gordon in the 18th minute.

In the second half, Petroski tied the game 1-1 in the 64th minute when she buried a bouncing ball inside the box for her seventh goal on the year.

Less than two minutes later, Brown scored the eventual game winner when she put away a cross from Petroski for the 2-1 lead. The goal was her third on the season while Petroski added her fourth assist, and 23rd career helper, moving her into a tie for fourth place on the all-time scoring list.

Kailey Hopkins recorded five saves on the evening while her counterpart Loren Pardoe made seven.

For the game the Griffins out-shot Notre Dame, 19-8, and held a 10-1 corner advantage.
