Women's Hoops Scores CSAC Win At Cabrini

RADNOR, PA. -- Behind four players in double figures, Gwynedd Mercy would shoot 45% in the final two quarters and hold Cabrini to just 21 second-half points as the Griffins won their tenth game this season and remained unblemished in conference play, defeating the Cavaliers, 64-52.

Junior Charlotte Kucowski led GMercyU (10-3, 5-0 CSAC) with 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, recording her eighth double-double this season. Nicole Dombrowski added 11 points, five caroms, and personal bests in assists (5) and blocks (3). Chandler DiFebbo also netted 11 points while pulling down six boards. Olivia Bradford chipped in 10 points.

Meghan Martin (13 points) and Dana Peterson (11 points) hit double digits for the Cavaliers (6-7, 3-1 CSAC), who suffered their first league loss.

In a game that seesawed back and forth, as the teams traded leads 10 times, the Griffins held Cabrini to just one field goal over the last 5:28 of the first, turning an 8-7 deficit to a 15-10 lead after one. Dombrowski's bucket gave GMercyU a six-point edge early in the second before a 7-0 spurt from the home team put the Cavs back on top. Cabrini would take a 31-25 lead into the break.

In the third, the Griffins outscored Cabrini, 19-8, seizing the lead for good on a three-pointer from Kucowski with 2:35 in the stanza for a 42-39 lead.

Gwynedd would build their lead to as much as nine, midway in the fourth before another Cabrini rally pulled them within 52-50 with 3:00 to go. On the next possession, Kucowski would help put the game out of reach with another big three. The team would go 9-for-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch to help ice it.

For the game, the Griffins would score 13 points off of 13 Cabrini turnovers while shooting 35% compared to the Cavaliers' 25% effort.

The victory was the Griffins' first win in five games in Radnor, dating back to a 50-40 win on January 18th, 2012.

Gwynedd Mercy closes out the week with a matchup at Rosemont on Saturday in CSAC action starting at 1 p.m.
