Petroski Nets Hat Trick As Griffins Win CSAC Opener

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A hat trick from sophomore Meghan Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) helped key Gwynedd Mercy's 4-0 Colonial States Athletic Conference win over Cedar Crest Saturday afternoon.

Junior Ariety Fellenz (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) added the other tally as the Griffins (3-2-1, 1-0 CSAC) picked up the CSAC victory.

The three goals were a career-high for Petroski, as Gwynedd dominated the stat sheet, firing out 24 shots and producing 10 corner kicks. Her first goal came in the seventh minute as she was able to outrace a Falcon defender on a clearing and beat Cedar Crest goalie Shelby Szoke on a breakaway.

In the 29th minute, it became 2-0 as Petroski took a pass into the box from Brittany Mitchell (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and dribble around two defenders. In the second half, Danielle Baxter (Glassboro, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) sent a long pass to Petroski who raced in on another breakaway.

Kerri Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) added the assist on the first goal while Anna Numerato (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) had the helper on Fellenz's tally, the final one on the day.

Szoke recorded eight saves on the day. GM keeper Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) wasn't tested much as she saw one shot on the day.
