GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell in their 2015 season opener, 6-0, to Washington College Tuesday afternoon.
The Griffins, who trailed 1-0 at halftime, saw the Shoremen storm the nets for five goals in the second.
Chris Lewandowski netted a pair while David McSwain tallied a goal and an assist. Dimitri Kaliakin added three assists for the Shoremen (1-0).
Gwynedd had trouble generating offense, as they were outshot, 21-2, for the contest. Washington held a 13-1 corner kick edge.
On their fourth corner of the first half, the Shoremen struck as Kaliakin put in a ball to the box where Michael Holowesko was able to head it past Gwynedd goalie
Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley)Â for the game's first goal.
Chilcote recorded nine saves in all, one shy of tying a personal high. Jon Wendeborn made one stop in one half of action while Josh Samuels saw playing time in the second.
Gwynedd Mercy (0-1) will look to get back on track this weekend when they head to Maryland to face McDaniel on Saturday and Stevenson on Sunday.
