BOX SCORE Game 2

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy lost a CSAC twinbill on Friday to Immaculata, falling 11-3 in game one, and 9-1 in game two.

The Griffins (16-14, 11-9 CSAC), despite lengthening their winless streak to nine games, did clinch a playoff berth on the day as Cedar Crest lost a DH to Cabrini. The Falcons trailed GMercyU by two games with four league games to go. Gwynedd now has a three game lead with just two more contests by each team, ironically a two-fer tomorrow at Cedar Crest to end the regular season starting at 12 p.m.

In today's first game, the Griffins held a 3-1 lead until the fifth as the Mighty Macs took advantage of three errors and four hits to score five runs. IU would add another five-spot in the seventh to break things open.

After GMercyU took a 1-0 lead in the first as a run would cross off an IU error, Immaculata got that run back on an RBI double from Annemarie Bartow. In the bottom half,

Gwynedd scored twice but let a golden opportunity squander in a quest for more runs, getting the bases loaded with no outs. The first three batters would reach safely to load the sacks. After a forceout at home, Megan Kelly (Ivyland, Pa./Little Flower) would draw a walk to score one run. The next hitter, Ashley Zavatsky (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) would reach on a fielder's choice to second to score another run. A grounder to short would end the frame.

Bartow added her second RBI double of the day in that fifth, which saw IU go up 6-3. A two-run single from Melissa Ejk and a RBI triple from Bartow would highlight a five-run seventh.

Jessica Behr (Philadelphia, Pa./MaST Charter) went 1-for-3 adding her fourth triple on the season. MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Pitcher Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) took the loss, as only four of the 11 runs were earned.

Bartow was the thorn in the Griffins' side in game two, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, on a double and homerun.

Down 2-0 after two innings, Gwynedd gave up five runs in the third as IU used five hits and an error. Bartow would cap the scoring for Immaculata with a two-run homerun in the fourth.

The Griffins would get two in scoring position in the bottom half, but were left stranded. In the bottom of the fifth, Jess Mower (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) led off the inning with a single and would later score from third on an error at shortstop to get GMercyU on the board. But it would be only run of the game, as a grounder to third with two on would end the second game.

Sophomore Nikki Canfield (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) had two hits, including a double. Michele Arechavala (Mt. Ephraim, N.J./Audubon) was the losing pitcher, giving up six earned runs on 11 hits.

The CSAC Playoffs begin on Wednesday, April 29th with first-round action pitting the #6 seed at the #3 seed and #5 at #4. The Griffins are slotted in the #6 seed and will learn their opponent after Saturday's contests.
