BOX SCORE Game 2

ASTON, PA. -- The Griffins lost two at Neumann on Friday in CSAC action, falling in game one, 7-0, and 10-6, in the nightcap.

Gwynedd (16-8, 11-5 CSAC) managed three hits in the first game as the Knights scored all of their runs in the first three innings. Senior Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) had two of the team's three hits. She also suffered the loss on the mound, giving up six earned runs on nine hits, with six walks, and a strikeout.

In game two, GMercyU had just four hits, but took advantage of three Neumann errors as they would take a 6-5 lead after three.

The Knights (20-4, 15-1 CSAC) struck first again, getting two in the first off a two-run double from Becky Guinto. Gwynedd countered in the second with two unearned runs before the Knights answered with a three-spot in the bottom half. In the third, the Griffins plated three runs on three walks and an error. After back-to-back singles to start the frame, sophomore Nikki Canfield (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) would later draw a base on balls with the bases full to force in a run. After two strikeouts, freshman Tara Matteo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) would also walk to score another run. Canfield would then score from third as a ball hit to third base was thrown home, but was not mishandled by the catcher for the third run.

The Knights would score twice in the fourth to reclaim the lead. Reliever Haley Broomell came on in relief and held the Griffins to one hit while fanning eight in four-plus innings to earn the win.

Whalen would again finish with two hits for GMercyU. Guinto was a Griffin killer in game two, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBIs.

Gwynedd Mercy will play at Centenary tomorrow for two.
