GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Junior
Ariety Fellenz (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) headed in the game-winning goal with 12 seconds remaining in the first overtime to lift Gwynedd Mercy to a 2-1 CSAC win over Keystone Wednesday night, handing the Giants their first conference loss.
The Griffins nearly dominated the offense, taking a season-high 26 shots, but could not find their way to the back of the net. Sophomore
Meghan Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) would put GM (5-3-2, 3-1 CSAC) on the board in the 17th minute as she headed in a well-placed cross into the middle from senior
Megan Gifford (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) for her team-leading eighth tally of the season.
Prior to the game, head coach
Neil Johnson received
his plaque for his induction

Hall of Fame, his alma materBut a defensive lapse allowed the Giants (4-5-1, 4-1 CSAC) to even things up just over 10 minutes later. Nisa Cortes was able to win a ball away from a goalie clear where she was able to slip a shot past keeper
Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and we were tied at 1-1. It would stay that way until the half.
With nine first-half shots, GM turned on the pressure, firing out 14 in the second but could not find paydirt. Fellenz would get a good look in the box on a corner kick, but her attempt was blocked out the cage by Keystone's defense.
In the first overtime period, Gwynedd kept the pressure on and it would pay off. In the final minute of the stanza, the Griffins were able to set up four corner kicks with the final one resulting in the golden goal. In the closing seconds,
Kerri Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower)'s corner kick found the feet of sophomore
Grace Macnamara (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell-Egan) at the top of the box, who was then able to flick it towards the net where Fellenz was able to get a head on it past the Giant's Sarah Heintz.
The goal was Fellenz's second career game winner.
Tadley saw just three shots, and made two saves. Heintz would record seven stops.
Gwynedd Mercy resumes action on Saturday when they travel to Cairn for a CSAC matchup starting at 1 p.m.
