LAPLUME, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy's 2015 season came to a close as the Griffins fell 3-1 (25-17, 25-12, 22-25, 25-11) at Keystone Wednesday evening.
Freshman
Samantha Schearer posted her first double double of the season, going for a career-high 11 kills and tying a personal best with 13 digs. She would also add a pair of aces and a solo block. Senior
Brianna Greer added seven kills and
Lauren Tressel chipped in four.
Four players reach double digits in kills, led by Tressel with 15, junior
Laura Kirk with 14, Schearer with 13 and
Rachael Hall with 12.
Facing a 2-0 deficit, Gwynedd would continue the match using a strong run late in the set, turning a 20-19 Keystone lead into a 24-22 lead. Greer would end the third with her third kill of the set for a 25-22 win.
The Giants had their own streak to start the fourth, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. GM would keep the deficit to 15-9 before Keystone ran off seven-straight to take a 22-9 advantage and go on and seal the match.
Hannah Zuchowski led Keystone (19-5, 9-2 CSAC) with nine kills, 18 digs, five aces and a solo block.
The Griffins had a three-game improvement in CSAC play from a year ago and finish the 2015 season at 9-20 and 5-6 in conference action. They will lose both Greer and Tressel to graduation as the duo made up nearly 40% of the team's kills this year
In their careers, Greer played three seasons, appearing in 77 matches. She totaled 261 kills (1.03 kps), 60 aces, 175 digs, and 83 blocks (34 solo).Tressel was a four-year letterwinner, playing in 113 contests and finished with 490 kills (1.30 kps), 114 aces, 951 digs, and 23 blocks (six solo).
