GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy wrapped up the #1 playoff seed and an undefeated CSAC mark as the Griffins stormed past Marywood, 5-1, Wednesday evening.

Gwynedd trailed 1-0 at the half before erupting for five goals in the second. Senior Stephanie Bacho scored three times while sophomore Brianna O'Connell added a pair as GM (11-5, 7-0 CSAC) finished with a perfect conference mark for the first time since the 2011 season.

For Bacho, it was her fourth career hat trick and sixth career multi-goal game for O'Connell.

The Pacers (9-7, 5-2 CSAC) were trying to win their fourth in a row and notch a possible home playoff game, got on the board in the late in the first when Cassie Stockwell got a stick on a hard pass into the box and deflected it up and over goalie Samantha Soscia. It was Marywood's only shot of the stanza as GM fired off eight of their own and had seven penalty corners but could not find paydirt. Gwynedd thought they had a goal with seconds remaining before the half, but it was waved off by the officials.

In the second, Bacho scored the first of her three tallies on the night as she knocked home a loose ball off a save just 2:01 into the half. She would strike again in the 43rd minute on a penalty corner, set up by Katie O'Neill. Bacho completed the natural hat trick just 24 seconds later as she was in the right place at the right time, cashing in on a scrum inside the arc for her 11th goal of the season.

It became 4-1 when O'Connell one-timed a nice pass from sophomore Melissa Russo at the 49:45 mark. Marywood tried to climb back in it offensively, getting five second-half corners, but the Griffin defense was able to snuff out any threat.

O'Connell would cap the scoring as she converted on a penalty stroke with 1:58 left for her 12th tally on the year.

GM would add to their shot total, registering 12 in the second stanza and would hold a 20-3 edge in shots and an 11-5 advantage in corners.

Soscia finished with one save while Marywood's Nicole Merrill recorded four.

Gwynedd Mercy will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, November 4th at 7 p.m. against an opponent to be determined after conference play wraps up. Check back to the Gwynedd Athletics website for more information.
