GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- In a must-win game in order to keep a possible playoff berth alive, the Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Soccer team delivered in dramatic fashion with a 2-1 victory in double overtime over Centenary College in CSAC play.
Junior
Danny Saba headed home the game winner in the 101st minute on a beautiful ball from senior
Rich Mychack off of a set free kick.
With the victory, the Griffins remain two points behind the final playoff spot in the CSAC men's soccer standings with one game to play.
Senior
Neil Brassell put the Griffins on the board early fifty seven seconds into the game when he beat the Cyclone goalie with a shot outside of the eighteen that when just over the reach of the keeper to find the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage.
The Cyclones would respond in the 29th minute when Richy Castro received a pass that beat a Griffin defender just inside the six yard line and tied the contest at 1-1.
Centenary would continue to apply the pressure out shooting Gwynedd, 8-0, in the second half. Both teams would remain scoreless throughout the second stanza and first overtime period.
Mychack would find Saba in a crowded box after the Griffins received possession off of a Cyclone foul thirty five yards out.
For the game, senior goalie
Matt Chilcote recorded seven saves, making two in the overtime periods. Jesse Goleman made three saves for the Cyclones.
The Griffins return back to action on Saturday when they travel to Summit University. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
