CLARKS SUMMIT, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was eliminated from postseason contention as the Griffins fell at Summit, 4-1, Saturday afternoon. The Griffins needed a win and a loss from Cairn, to sneak into the sixth and final playoff spot.
Down 2-0 at the half, Gwynedd, who held a 13-5 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes, could not find a way to get on the board. The Defenders' Wesley Pincince made it 3-0 in the 60th minute, further putting GM in a deficit.
In the 72nd minute, the Griffins were able to convert when
Rich Mychack was able to hook up with
Kyle Ditsche on a through ball, where the senior netted his third career goal.
Pincince would add his second tally of the day just minutes later on a penalty kick for the final dagger for Summit (3-15, 1-8 CSAC).
Gwynedd would total a season-high 30 shots, while Summit registered 16. Senior goalie
Matt Chilcote had two saves in the first and six in the second for a total of eight stops. Summit's Ben Campbell made seven.
The Griffins finish 2015 with a final mark of 6-13-1 and 3-5-1 in CSAC action. It would mark the final games for the team's eight seniors: Mychack, Ditsche, Chilcote,
Greg Gengaro,
Sheldon Fogle,
Seth Lindner,
Neil Brassell, and
Brandon Rodriguez.
