RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Cabrini battled to a 1-1 tie in a meeting in a matchup of the top two teams in the CSAC on Saturday. With the tie, the Griffins (10-3-3, 8-1-1 CSAC) still hold a two-point lead over the Cavaliers. GM has just one CSAC game left to play while Cabrini has two, and a chance to overtake first.
Sophomore Megan Petroski added to her team-leading goal total with her 14th on the season early in the contest. In just the 10th minute, she would work her way through a pair of defenders to race off to a breakway and make it 1-0. Despite being outshot, 7-3 including one that hit the crossbar, the Griffins held on to the one-goal lead at the break.
The Cavaliers (7-5-3, 7-0-2 CSAC) would answer at the 63:41 mark on a goal from Meghan Martin. Cabrini would get a corner kick opportunity with less than a minute in regulation only to be turned away by the Griffin defense.
Senior goalie
Jess Tadley and Cavalier keeper Alivia Dietsch each made two saves apiece in the overtime but neither team could generate the game winner. In all, Tadley totaled five stops while Dietsch recorded four.
Gwynedd Mercy, who has clinched one of the top two seeds and a first-round bye in the CSAC Women's Soccer Tournament, will close out the regular season on Thursday when they host Rosemont in a 6 p.m. start.
