Women's Soccer Lock Up #2 Playoff Seed on Senior Night

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer Team cemented the #2 playoff seed with a 1-0 victory over Rosemont in the regular season finale on Senior Night.

Prior to the contest the team and coaching staff honored its six seniors: Diamond Devereaux, Allison Bigos, Jess Tadley, Ashley Ustica, Kerri Petroski and Megan Gifford.

Meghan Petroski netted the eventual game-winner with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation as the sophomore registered her team-leading 15th goal on the season and her CSAC-leading fifth game-winning goal.

The Griffins (11-3-3, 9-1-1 CSAC) receive a first-round bye and will host a CSAC Tournament Semifinal Game here on Wednesday, November 4th against the highest remaining seed. First-round action kicks off on Monday.

After a scoreless first half where a total of five shots were taken by both teams, Gwynedd had a prime scoring opportunity with 29:06 remaining as Brittany Mitchell fired from 25 yards out towards the far post. The Raven's Jenna Kaiser, who entered at the start of the second half, made the save of the night, getting enough fingers on the ball to push it over the crossbar to keep things scoreless.

The Griffins had three of their five corner kicks in the second half, and on their second attempt in the stanza, were able to hit paydirt. Senior Kerri Petroski's kick from the left corner made its way in the box where Meghan Petroski got a good piece on a header to the upper right corner.

Tadley and the GM Defense were able to funnel away any scoring opportunities, holding Rosemont to one second-half shot. Tadley would notch her fifth shutout on the season and 26th in her career. Kaiser totaled just the one save while starter Andrea Dossantos made two stops in the first half.
