GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer team clinched a berth to the 2015 CSAC Playoffs with a 1-0 shutout victory over Marywood University on Tuesday evening.
Senior goalkeeper
Jess Tadley recorded seven saves for the clean sheet her fourth of the season and 25th of her career. The victory also marked Tadley's 35th win of her career as well.
Sophomore
Sarah Nedwick put the Griffins (10-3-2, 8-1 CSAC) on the board in the 35th minute as she was able to finish a rebound off of corner kick that was first saved on the end-line by a Pacer defender. The goal was also Nedwick's first collegiate goal. Going into the halftime break, the Griffins maintained control of the game holding a 9-3 shot advantage and 7-1 corner advantage.
The Pacers (6-6-3, 5-2-2 CSAC) however would dictate play in the second half, looking to take momentum back on their side. They would outshoot the Griffins 10-4 in the stanza and hold a 4-1 corner advantage. Tadley kept Marywood out of the net with six second-half saves. The biggest coming with 16:15 left in the game when she denied Megan Swiecicki who had a breakaway opportunity.
Julie Youngman recorded three saves in her first collegiate start for Marywood.
The Griffins return back to action on Saturday when they travel to the Main Line to face Cabrini in a battle for the CSAC top seed. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
