Griffins Clipped At Cabrini

RADNOR, PA. -- The Griffins dropped a tough 2-1 decision at Cabrini in CSAC action on Tuesday, as a second-half rally fell short.

The loss sends Gwynedd to 5-11-1 and 2-3-1 in conference play with their playoff aspirations taking a hit. With three CSAC games to go, the Griffins are on the outside looking in and will need to take care of business.

Freshman Joe Dellobuono would score his first collegiate goal in the 78th minute, but a late push including a corner kick with seconds remaining wouldn't go.

After a scoreless first half that saw eight shots total, the Cavaliers (11-1-3, 5-0-1 CSAC) struck first at the 53:16 mark when Jared Irwin would beat Griffin goalie Matt Chilcote for a 1-0 lead. In the 71st minute, it became 2-0 when Ben Roda took a header pass from John Underwood.

Gwynedd would register six of their nine shots in the second, looking to cut into the deficit. Dellobuono would answer as he knocked in a loose ball off a corner with an assist from senior Sheldon Fogle.

Chilcote finished with four saves while Cabrini goalie C.J. Serratore made two.

The Griffins will host Neumann on Saturday at noon which could determine their playoff fate. Currently the two teams sport similar 2-3-1 CSAC records and spots outside the playoff bubble.
