Hat Trick From Petroski Helps Propel Griffins Past Knights

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Meghan Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) recorded her second career hat trick to help Gwynedd Mercy to a 4-1 CSAC win over Neumann Tuesday evening.

The sophomore added an assist to give her a career-high seven-point night as the Griffins (7-3-2, 5-1 CSAC) remained unbeaten in their last four contests.

She would strike twice in the game's first 10 minutes for a 2-0 lead. Her first goal came at the 7:04 mark where she was able to get around a defender in the box and use the outside of her foot on a shot to fool Neumann keeper Kristen Montgomery. Her second tally came just over a minute later as she took a long feed from senior Ashley Ustica (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and scored on a breakaway down the right side.

Petroski would then add her team-leading 11th goal in the 24th minute as she was able to get a good deflection off a header to stake GM to a 3-0 lead as the half, Gwynedd lead in shots, 10-5.

Neumann (1-11, 1-6 CSAC) looked to turn things around in the second stanza, recording 11 of its 16 shots.

After Petroski set up Megan Gifford (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) on a breakaway for the senior's first goal of the season, the Knights would test goalie Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), but the senior finished with six saves. Neumann would spoil the shutout attempt in the 67th minute when Jamie King was able to win a ball at the right endline and sneak one past Tadley.

Montgomery would finish with four saves for Neumann.

The Griffins are right back at it on Thursday when they head to Summit in a rescheduled matchup from October 3rd.
