GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. --The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer team ended their rainy Thursday evening game against Alvernia, playing to a 1-1 draw.
Scoreless at the break, Alvernia had a slight edge in shots at 5-4 but Gwynedd would strike first in the second.
Junior
Ariety Fellenz (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) got Gwynedd on the board 12 minutes into the second stanza, scoring off a perfectly placed corner from senior
Kerri Petroski (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) in the middle of the box. The goal is her sixth on the season. Alvernia would answer not long after when Johanna Shank put a rebound in an open net to even the score at 1-1
Trading shots for the remainder of the half, neither side could take control of the game offensively. After two over time periods the Crusaders and Griffins remained deadlocked at 1-1. The Crusaders narrowly outshot the Griffins, 10-9, overall. GM had the slight edge in corners at 6-5.
Senior goaltender
Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) made six saves while the Crusaders' Jessica Plunkett finished with five.
Gwynedd (4-3-2) is back in action this Saturday as they travel to Summit University to continue CSAC play. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
